This substantial medieval bronze signet ring, named 'Zvezdan,' carries an eight-rayed star engraved at the heart of its shield-shaped bezel, framed by a square border and finished with finely hatched triangular fills. Cast in one piece between the 11th and 14th centuries in the Balkans or eastern Mediterranean, it is a rare survivor of provincial Byzantine and post-Byzantine workshop tradition, its varied malachite and ochre patina untouched by cleaning.
