Description
This compact medieval bronze pendant, titled Crux Quintia, was crafted between the 11th-14th century and features a symmetrical cross form with short flaring arms. Each terminal, along with the center, is marked by a deeply incised concentric dot motif-interpreted by scholars as symbolic of the Five Holy Wounds of Christ. These stylized 'eye' circles also likely served an apotropaic function, protecting the wearer from spiritual harm.
The cross is solidly cast, with a narrow integral suspension loop at the top, ideal for devotional wear by a lay Christian, pilgrim, or crusader during the High Middle Ages.

Historical Context:
Cross pendants like Crux Quintia were widely worn across medieval Europe-particularly in regions blending Orthodox and Crusader traditions. The five-circle pattern was not only a reflection of Christian passion devotion but was also linked to protective folklore, where circular motifs were believed to repel evil. Such pendants were more than ornaments-they were daily reminders of faith, suffering, and salvation.
