Original objects

Each ring is an ancient original, individually examined by Aurora Antiqua. Its own record sets out the date, condition and known collection history.

A considered choice

Wearability depends on the condition of the individual piece. Check the fixed EU / US size and ask Aurora Antiqua about fit or condition before choosing.

Made clear

A certificate accompanies each piece, together with a written lifetime authenticity guarantee. Insured, tracked shipping is available worldwide.

Explore ancient Roman rings for sale at Aurora Antiqua, with individual photographs and descriptions to help you compare each piece. Choose by design, material and fit, then read the dating and condition notes for the ring itself. Our original ancient jewelry is backed by a written lifetime authenticity guarantee.

Choosing an ancient Roman ring

Start with the detail that draws your eye: an engraved bezel, a carved stone or the shape of the band. For a closer look at particular designs, browse signet rings, intaglio rings and seal rings. These type collections include pieces from different periods, so check the individual attribution when choosing a Roman example.

An intaglio has a design cut into its surface. A Roman example in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, object 41.160.449, combines an agate intaglio with a gold ring. It illustrates one form of Roman jewelry, rather than establishing the date or authenticity of another ring. Our Roman jewelry guide provides wider context for the pieces you see here.

Check the size and condition before buying

Fit: compare the listed size with a ring that fits your intended finger. Use our Roman ring sizes guide to understand the measurements. If the hoop is uneven or the measurement is unclear, ask for an internal measurement and extra photographs before ordering. Choose an existing fit rather than assuming an ancient hoop can be resized.

Condition: look closely at the inside of the band, the shoulders and any stone setting. Review disclosed repairs, cracks and surface losses alongside the overall appearance. Bronze, silver and gold rings can be worn every day. Please wear them with care: it always depends on the individual ring, and an ancient ring can still be damaged. If you hope to wear a piece, ask about that specific ring's condition.

Dating, provenance and authenticity

Read the proposed date separately from the ownership history. Where a period or cultural attribution rests on comparison of form and decoration, it is an assessment, not proof of an excavated origin or a named ancient owner. Ask which evidence supports the attribution and what documentation accompanies the piece.

Our provenance and authenticity page explains Aurora's approach and lifetime guarantee. For a purchase checklist, read the ancient Roman rings buyer's guide. Free insured shipping is available within the EU; see shipping and insurance for destination-specific charges and arrangements.

Explore Roman ring history

Continue with Roman soldiers and rings, Roman wedding rings, or the jewelry Romans wore. For inscriptions on coinage, use our Roman coin lettering guide; coin abbreviations should not automatically be applied to ring inscriptions. You can also browse cross and devotional rings across periods.

Before you choose

About our rings.

History, fit and the practical details.

Are these original ancient rings?

Yes. Each piece is individually examined by Aurora Antiqua and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a written lifetime authenticity guarantee. The individual record gives the proposed date, known collection history and condition.

Can I wear an ancient Roman ring?

Many ancient rings can be worn with care. Suitability depends on the condition of the individual ring, including its hoop, repairs and stone setting. Ask Aurora Antiqua about the specific piece if you would like to wear it.

How do I find the right size?

The collection shows the EU and US sizes recorded for each ring. Choose a pair from the available-size filter, then compare the measurements with a ring that fits. Ancient hoops can be uneven; contact Aurora Antiqua for internal measurements if you are unsure. We do not resize ancient rings.

Where do the rings come from?

The rings come from private collections and the art market in Europe and the UK. Each has its own known collection history, given in the individual record. Recorded ownership history does not necessarily establish an archaeological find spot.

What about shipping and returns?

EU orders include insured DHL Express shipping. Orders outside the EU require an export licence; allow approximately three weeks for the licence before dispatch. Delivery charges, import duties and taxes depend on the destination. You can request a return within 30 days of receipt; the piece must remain unworn or unused, in its original condition and packaging. Contact info@auroraantiqua.com before returning it. Return shipping is paid by the buyer.
